Discovery Coordinator Job Description

To coordinate the Discovery Program, composed of three parts:
  • Discover Your Genealogy;
  • Discover Your Library, and
  • Discover Your Country
Each part is scheduled three times per season (Sept to May) on a rotating basis.
The Discovery program takes place at each Saturday meeting between 09:15am and 10:00am, overlapping with the Before BIFHSGO program.

Description
Your Genealogy
At least two BIFHSGO members display their own family genealogy and research material in any way they want, but set up so they can interact with people and answer their questions. A preset presentation is not necessary.
Your Library
A volunteer from the Brian O’Regan Library will bring a sample of the reference books available for display and be available to answer questions.
Optional: One other element from one of the other two programs that fit the theme of that day’s Before BIFHSGO or monthly speaker.
Your Country
One of the three traditional Discovery Table displays from England, Ireland or Scotland.
Optional: One other element from one of the other two programs that fit the theme of that day’s Before BIFHSGO or monthly speaker.
 
Duties:
The Discovery Program Coordinator reports to the [Board member].
Encourage and recruit volunteers to display their family genealogy;
Confirm the Library and Discover Your Country volunteers are available when required and arrange for alternative displays if not;
Establish a rotating schedule for the three Discovery programs. Currently, the schedule is as follows:
  • Discovery Your Country – September, December, March
  • Discover Your Library – October, January, April
  • Discover Your Genealogy – November, February, May
Report the schedule and Discovery program & volunteers to the:
  • Board for its monthly meetings
  • Newsletter editor for its publication schedule
  • Social media contacts for immediate postings a few days prior to the Saturday meeting
  • Saturday morning setup coordinator for table numbers and arrangements
  • Request the Discovery Program volunteers to identify any websites that would be relevant / supportive to their display and advise the Research Computer coordinator so they can be set up for the Saturday meeting.
Assist the volunteers as may be needed.
