Most family historians run into roadblocks when researching their ancestors. Some unwittingly seize misleading or incorrect information and charge off in the wrong direction. Using family case studies, Terry recounted how he found his way around some roadblocks in his family history research and how he avoided going down some wrong paths. Using detective techniques, he talked about getting the most out of online research, particularly Ancestry.com. During the presentation Terry outlined his approach to research: be an optimist; be skeptical; be logical and methodical; beware of bum steers; try role playing; build the case but don't jump to conclusions and be curious.
