True countryfolks, Henry was a lifelong ag lab and Ellen a midwife. They never lived more than a few miles from their birthplaces. (Great-great grandparents of Christine Jackson)

Daughter of a hay tier (ag lab), in 1917 she married John Robert Wright of Brighton, Sussex, where she subsequently lived and raised her family. (Christine Jackson's grandmother.)


Picture of Edwin Miller

Edwin Miller 1836-1907, born in Ringmer, Sussex.

He served in Queen Victoria's stables, 1858-1898, and, for the last 9 of those years, was State Coachman, driving the state carriage in both the Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee processions in London.
He was the subject of a short article in Anglo-Celtic Roots, vol. 10, no. 1, Spring 2004. (Christine Jackson's great great-uncle - brother of her great-grandmother)

Moses Meyer Goudsmit (Morris Goldsmith) 1847-1930

Moses was an Ashkenazi Dutch Jewish diamond cutter, who emigrated in 1867 with his extended family from the slums of Amsterdam to the Dutch Jewish 'ghetto' in Whitechapel, London. He worked his way out of the slums as a cigar maker, eventually becoming a cigar manufacturer and retiring to enjoy the salty sea breezes of Brighton, Sussex.
